Typhoon Rai Disaster Relief

Updated: Apr 20, 2022

We've received news from Ulay of the devastation caused by Typhoon Rai (named Odette in the Philippines) on December 16, 2021. Homes and crops on Negros Island were badly damaged, especially in Negros Occidental province where Ulay is located. Electricity, water, and telecommunications were lost and are still lacking in some areas. Thankfully there was no loss of life in our Partner congregation, and the Ulay Chapel is undamaged. Some Ulay members took shelter there, as their homes were destroyed or have no roof. Our Ulay partners are farmers, and have experienced wide-spread loss of corn, rice, bananas and all other crops.

Thanks to your amazing generosity, we were able to send $2,000 to Ulay for Typhoon Rai/Odette disaster relief. Food and chickens were purchased and distributed to Ulay families, and house repairs have begun.

An additional $2,000 will be sent to the UU Church of the Philippines to help aid the other 26 UU congregations on Negros Island, most without U.S. partners. Some of their churches and homes received significant damage.
