Give.

Give your time, talent, and treasure.

Part of our covenant with one another is to contribute whatever each of us can give, in time, talent, and treasure, to help our community help each of us to grow spiritually. And then, as we grow as a church community, we make our collective impact stronger, making our broader community more just, inclusive, and committed to our values of equity and compassion.

Time and Talent: There are many ways to support the congregation with your time and talent, such as:

  • Keeping the church building in good shape by pitching in on a fix-up day

  • Serving in one of many tasks on Sunday mornings—like usher, greeter, or worship associate

  • Providing goodies for Connections Hour

  • Volunteering for our Religious Exploration program

Talk to our Connections staff if you're interested in giving your Time and Talent. (You may discover you have a talent you never knew about!)

Treasure: Our congregation’s fundraising objective is to raise sufficient funds annually to pay our staff fairly and provide fair benefits, support our key programs, pay operating expenses, and ensure our long-term financial security. Accomplishing that objective requires that each and every UUSM member and friend participate in the financial support of this community to the best of their ability. An important responsibility of being a UUSM member or friend is to make an annual financial commitment that takes the form of a recurring financial contribution-of-record to support and sustain this congregation’s Mission and Vision. You can refer to the UUA Suggested Fair-Share Contribution Guide to help determine your level of support. The Guide asks more of those who have higher levels of both income and commitment.

The Church Center Giving Module is our preferred method of electronic giving. Transaction fees are lower, and administration is much easier!

Our congregation’s fundraising objective is to raise sufficient funds annually to support our key programs, pay operating expenses, and ensure our long-term financial security. About Sustainable Stewardship

Our Sustainable Stewardship program is designed to provide reliable ongoing support to our community with a minimum of effort, since no pledge drive is needed to renew or change pledge amounts. Sustainable Stewardship, also known as Recurring Giving, is among the most cost-effective fundraising methods today. Participants commit to a donation amount that is paid regularly – most often monthly, but sometimes quarterly or annually – and continues automatically until it’s changed. Because online giving is safe, secure, and reliable, recurring-giving donations are usually managed electronically through Giving Module.

If for some reason you prefer not to use online giving, other methods that will work include checks, electronic funds transfer (EFT) from your bank account, credit or debit-card transactions, or securities transfers. For additional information, contact the Sustainable Stewardship chairperson.

Making an Annual Commitment

We ask that each individual or family unit make an annual commitment that will allow our Board and Finance Committee to plan the congregation’s annual budget with some degree of financial reliability. To make an annual financial commitment to UUSM online, choose a payment option on this page, or download and complete the Sustaining Financial Contribution form.

If changes occur in your personal financial situation that either enable you to increase your commitment or require you to reduce it, you may make such changes online above, or by contacting the UUSM office. You can also use a payment method above to make special-occasion financial contributions to UUSM, such as donations in honor or memory of someone special, or to purchase tickets to a UUSM event.

OTHER WAYS TO GIVE

In addition to making a Sustaining Pledge of financial support to UUSM, please consider these other ways you can make sure this community has the financial wherewithal to maintain its many member programs and continue its good work in the community.

Annual Fundraising Event

UUSM holds at least one major event each year to help raise the funds needed to sustain our community. For 2024 it's our online auction and onsite party, All Together Now '24. The online auction runs from March 3 to 16, and the onsite party is March 16. Check your Friday bulletin for details, and let's have some fun while we raised money for our congregation!

Planned Giving

Planned Giving is part of a broader category known as Estate Planning. At UUSM, Planned Giving takes the form of members naming UUSM in their Wills or Living Trusts, as well as making contributions to our Pooled Income Fund. The Pooled Income Fund is a professionally managed fund that provides current income to the donor or donor’s designee during their lifetime as well as a tax deduction to the donor at the time of the donation. The principal becomes the property of UUSM when the donor or designee passes away.

Members making Planned Giving decisions incorporating UUSM can designate the funds be used for a specific purpose, or can specify that the funds be unrestricted, in which case the UUSM Board of Trustees will manage the funds. For additional information on how to include Planned Giving in your estate planning, please contact the UUSM Treasurer or any member of the Finance Committee.

eScrip

E-Scrip is a painless way to raise money for our community by way of our shopping, and it all happens behind the scenes. Simply register your debit or credit cards with e-Scrip, then shop at merchants who have signed-up as e-Scrip participants. Each merchant will donate to UUSM an amount based on a percentage of money spent by our members, sometimes as much as 5 or 10%.

This effort typically raises several thousand dollars a year, and requires very little effort beyond the card-registration process. Using e-Scrip is a great way to support UUSM! Sign up for e-Scrip today! Our group identification number with eScrip is 138057531.
